JOB VACANCIES

GARDENERS

Based : within 5 miles of RG9 6RP

Hours: Part or full time*

Salary : between £15.00 & £30.00 per hour dependent upon qualifications and experience

Start : asap 


Job Purpose: You will be a key part of THE FLOWER UNION gardening team. You will be a gardener with professional gardening experience and / or recognised horticultural qualifications. You will be horticulturally skilled, confident and knowledgable about plants, plant care, garden maintenance and garden management. You will have good client relationship skills and will be capable of working independently and unsupervised. You will be guided by The Flower Union Head Gardener and will work alongside the rest of team to meet our aims and objectives as a Social Enterprise


 YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES 


All professional gardening tasks required to develop and maintain the health, beauty and longevity of client gardens which will include ;

  • Following TFU guidelines for seasonal garden maintenance tasks for flowers, shrubs, small trees, hedges and edible / cutting gardens
  • Developing a working knowledge of clients' wishes and translating this into garden plans 
  • Encouraging diversity of wildlife and managing garden pests and pathogens


REQUIREMENTS

NECESSARY


  • Reliable, conscientious & professional
  • Organised, collaborative and client focussed
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the UK
  • Existing horticultural qualifications and / or demonstrable experience working as a professional gardener
  • Owner of own gardening tools including ; secateurs, pruners, hand trowel/fork, rake, spade and trug


DESIRABLE

  • Driver with own vehicle or ability to travel to RG9 6RP for shared transport


* We work a shift system whereby our daily schedule is broken up into 2 shifts shifts ; one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Each shift is normally 4 hour but can be longer. We are flexible in terms of the number of hours / shifts you choose to work and are very happy to consider applications from those who wish to work on a flexible basis or those with other commitments. Job Purpose: You will be a key part of THE FLOWER UNION gardening team. You will be reliable, hard working, conscientious and professional. You will listen and follow instructions well, take pride in completing your work to a high standard and be capable of working alongside other gardeners and independently. 


You will be trained and supervised by The Flower Union Gardeners and will work alongside the rest of team to meet our aims and objectives as a Social Enterprise


 YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES 


  • Working with the Gardening team to complete seasonal gardening tasks including ; mowing, strimming, edging lawns, raking leaves, deadheading, weeding flower beds & borders, pruning shrubs & trees, feeding and watering plants, wheelbarrowing, mulching, waste removal and turning compost
  • Ensuring that every garden is left neat and tidy


REQUIREMENTS

NECESSARY


  • Punctual, conscientious and hard-working
  • Listens and follows instructions well
  • Interest in and willingness to learn about horticulture 
  • Collaborative and professional (though you are not required to be social)
  • Physically fit / desire to be physically fit (able to handle and lift garden plants and tools and move around the garden speedily)
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the UK
  • Owner of suitable and appropriate gardening clothing (including gardening gloves and safe shoes or boots)
