GARDENERS


Based : Within 15 miles of RG9 6RP


Hours: Part to full time. Normally between 4 and 8 hrs per day between 9am-5pm Monday-Friday but we are flexible in terms of the number of hours / shifts you choose to work and are very happy to consider applications from those who wish to work on a flexible / study time /school time / term time basis or those with other commitments 


Job Purpose: You will be a key part of THE FLOWER UNION gardening team. You will be an experienced professional gardener. You will be skilled, confident and knowledgable about plants, plant care, garden maintenance and garden management. You will have good client relationship skills and will be capable of working independently and unsupervised 


 YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES 


All professional gardening tasks including ; 


  • Planting, pruning, weeding, hedge cutting, watering and maintaining the health and appearance of plants and shrubs
  • Following TFU schedule of seasonal maintenance for flowers, shrubs, trees, hedges and meadows
  • Using and maintaining battery operated garden machinery such as strimmers, mowers, hedge trimmers, pruners
  • Developing a working knowledge of clients' gardens including familiarity with their trees, plants, plans  and objectives
  • Encouraging, where appropriate, diversity of wildlife within client gardens
  • Managing garden pests and pathogens
  • Maintaining herbaceous borders including planting, staking, dead-heading, dividing, feeding and watering as appropriate
  • Maintaining lawns, meadows and grass gardens
  • Pruning shrubs, small trees, climbers and hedges
  • Maintaining high standards as per company policies
  • Maintaining high standards of health and safety


REQUIREMENTS

NECESSARY


  • Reliable, punctual, conscientious
  • Organised and communicative
  • Willing to work in a timely and professional fashion
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the UK
  • Existing horticultural qualifications or demonstrable experience working as a professional gardener

GARDENING ASSISTANTS

Job Purpose: You will be a key part of THE FLOWER UNION gardening team. You will be physically fit, hard working and professionally presented. You will follow instructions well, take pride in completing your work to a high standard and be capable of working responsibly


You will be trained and supervised by the Gardening Team and will work alongside the rest of THE FLOWER UNION to meet our aims and objectives as a Social Enterprise


 YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES 


  • Working with the Head Gardener & gardening team to complete seasonal gardening tasks including ; mowing, strimming, edging lawns, raking leaves, deadheading flowers, weeding flower beds & borders, pruning shrubs & trees, feeding and watering plants, wheelbarrowing, mulching and turning compost
  • Ensuring that every garden is left neat and tidy


REQUIREMENTS

NECESSARY


  • Motivated, conscientious and hard-working
  • Follows instructions well
  • Willingness to learn
  • Collaborative and professional (though you are not required to be social)
  • Ability to handle and lift items weighing between 0-5 kilos and to move around the garden 
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the UK
  • Suitable and appropriate gardening clothing (including gardening gloves and reinforced shoes or boots)


DESIRABLE

  • Driver with own vehicle or ability to travel to RG9 6RP for shared transport
